Key Personnel

Mr. John C. Walker

Mr. John C. Walker serves as Vice President of the Energy Division of Innovative Bio-Technologies. Mr. Walker has spent the last four years evaluating biomass, biofuels, co-generation and renewable energy systems and providing consulting services to clients interested in energy conservation, systems optimization, heat recovery and total energy savings through optimization. Mr. Walker attended Universal Technical Institute of Phoenix, Arizona for Refrigeration Journeyman and Pipe Fitter Journeyman preparation, graduating Alpha Beta Kappa. He worked as a service engineer for Carrier in Lakeport, California prior to moving to Oregon in 1989. Mr. Walker secured a position with Douglas County where he received education in automation systems, electrical generation systems, industrial boiler systems and lighting for industrial and commercial buildings. His education and experience culminated in full apprenticeships in stationary engineering and electricity/electronics. He obtained two additional journeyman licenses, Class A Electrician Journeyman and Boiler Journeyman. During his years with the government, Mr. Walker founded and co-developed a program known as Energy Star. He is a member of the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Building Operator Certification program, American Institute of Plant Engineers, the American Council of Renewable Energy (ACORE) and the California Climate Action Registry.


Mr. Alexander Samardzich

Mr. Alexander Samardzich has extensive experience in the construction industry. His experience ranges from the construction of single-family housing, hotel/motel construction to the development of the first large scale ethanol plant in the State of Wisconsin. Mr. Samardzich led the investment group that developed, constructed and now operate the ethanol plant, Ace Ethanol, LLC. He also led the team responsible for the development and construction of the expansion to double the original capacity of the ethanol plant. Mr. Samardzich is a member of the Board of Managers of Innovative Bio-Technologies, LLC, President of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance and a member of the Board of Directors of Ace Ethanol, LLC.


Mr. Robert D Sather

Mr. Robert D. Sather is the Board Chairman and Vice President of Innovative Bio-Technologies, and currently serves as Chairman of the Ace Ethanol Board of Directors/Director of Public Affairs. Mr. Sather is a part-time lobbyist and serves on the Board of Directors' of C5-C6 Technologies (First in the world to clone enzymes for more efficient biorefining processing), co-chairs Glasshoff and Sather Enterprises, serves on the Mega Foods and Fuels Board of Directors' and serves on the Boards of Directors of the Altoona Housing Authority and Chairs the Board of Directors' of the Chippewa Valley Workforce Taskforce. Mr. Sather is professor emeritus and administrator of the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, served on the Eau Claire Area Economic Development Committee for 7 years, Vice Chair of Eau Claire County Board of Supervisors', and served as chair of the Chippewa Valley Airport Commission. He was a consultant to municipalities regarding applications for capital improvement grants/loans from EPA, FHA, EDA, SBA and other agencies. He has served as chair of the West Central Regional Planning Commission for 12 years. Mr. Sather has an earned Bachelor of Science degree, UW-Eau Claire and a Master of Science, UW-Stout.


Ms. Terri D. Williams

Ms. Terri D. Williams serves as Executive Research Administrator for Innovative Bio-Technologies. Ms. Williams has worked in the Agricultural and Commercial Loan Departments in the banking industry. She has additional experience as the Manager for an agricultural supply company. Ms. Williams has been with IBT since June of 2004 previously serving as the Office Manager.


Ms. Lindsey M. Mertens

Ms. Lindsey M. Mertens serves as Office Manager for Innovative Bio-Technologies. Ms. Mertens attended UW-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College and received a degree in Administrative Assistant. She has been with IBT since August of 2006.

Dr. Raphael Katzen, P.E.

Dr. Raphael Katzen is a graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn achieving B.Ch.E, M.Ch.E., and D.Ch.E degrees. He has more than 60 years experience in chemical engineering and related fields - in organic chemicals and petrochemicals, waste disposal and chemical recovery low temperature technology, plastics, biomass utilization, synthetic fuels, alcohol production, conservation and pollution abatement. His organizational experience includes research and development, plant operations, design and construction, contract negotiations, technical service, project management, consulting engineering services and administration. In 1953, he established Raphael Katzen Associates and in 1956, Raphael Katzen Associates International, Inc., where he was President and CEO until the end of 1997. He is currently working as a self-employed Consulting Engineer. Throughout his career, Dr. Katzen has served as the Manager of the Engineering Division of Vulcan Cincinnati, Technical Supervisor in Research and Development for Diamond Alkali Company, Director of Research for Northwood Chemical Company and an Instructor of Chemical Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Dr. Katzen is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Dr. Katzen is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemists, Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada, and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Exposition of Chemical Industries and the Board of Fellows of Polytechnic University.

Dr. Katzen has also received the following awards:

  • Professional Practice Award of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers - 1986 this led to a Citation by the Ohio House of Representatives
  • Personal Achievement in Chemical Engineering Award - 1988 Chemical Engineering Magazine
  • Management Division Award - 1990 American Institute of Chemical Engineers
  • Elected to the National Academy of Engineering - 1996 for his achievements in Bioengineering
  • Charles D. Scott Award - 1997 Nineteenth Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals (sponsored by USDOE, NREL and ORNL)
  • Lifetime Achievement Award - 1999 Renewable Fuels Association
  • Special Lifetime Achievement Award - 2000 American Chemical Society
  • First Award of Excellence for Outstanding Technical Achievements - Sixteenth Annual Fuel Ethanol Workshop
  • Founders Award - 2001 American Institute of Chemical Engineers

Dr. Craig S. Tedmon

Dr. Craig S. Tedmon was born in Pueblo, Colorado, and raised in Seattle, Washington. He earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctor of Science degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From 1964 to 1987, Dr. Tedmon held various research and technology executive management positions with the General Electric Co. From 1987 to 1990, he was Senior Vice President at Noranda Corp., Canada's largest natural resource company. From 1991 until his retirement at the end of 1997, Dr. Tedmon was Executive Vice President of Research and Technology for Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in Zurich, Switzerland. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Metals. Dr. Tedmon was a non-executive director of the British Firm BOC from 1993 through 1999. Other board experience includes the Canadian company Lumonics (1988 - 1989), and several internal boards of Noranda, Noranda Forest, and ABB. Dr. Tedmon is a member of the faculty Visiting Committee of MIT. He is the founding Chairman of the Board of Bankcda, a community bank headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; a director of Trigeo Network Securities, Inc.; and a former director of North Cascades National Bank.

Dr. Tedmon's technology experience at GE and ABB includes approximately 30 years of research and product development in the areas of power generation, electrical power transmission and distribution systems, locomotive systems, as well as other areas. He has published about 35 technical papers, and has seven patents.


Mr. James Landreth

Mr. James Landreth is a summa cum laude graduate of Notre Dame, majoring in Finance and Economics. He also holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Landreth was a Common Stock Analyst for Allstate Insurance Company located in Northbrook, Illinois for several years before becoming an owner/manager of his own company called Jim Landreth Renovations in Bruce, Wisconsin. His management experience includes working as the owner/manager of Christie Mountain Ski Area of Bruce, Wisconsin. Mr. Landreth recently inaugurated a new business venture, BLDG ART, a design/build company with initial projects in Polk and Barron Counties in the spring of 2004.


Mr. Robert W. Williams

Mr. Robert Williams is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison achieving a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career working for the Sundstrand Corporation of Rockford, Illinois, designing test equipment utilizing hydraulics and steam. He was also involved in the development of torpedo propulsion systems. Mr. Williams has worked as a field representative for Sybron Corporation, Taylor Instrument Division, developing electronic and pneumatic process control instrumentation. In 1973, Mr. Williams became the owner and President of Chippewa Springs Corporation of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Mr. Williams developed the brand and increased sales from $250,000 to $3,500,000 through multiple manufacturing, distribution and exporting locations. In 1994, Mr. Williams formed Better Brite, Inc., a truck washing facility. He was involved in the building of the facility through the installation of the machinery. Mr. Williams' latest endeavor is an expansion of Better Brite, Inc. known as Thunder Bolt™, a company he founded and serves as President. Mr. Williams was also responsible for the design of the original product.
